The multi-award winning actress was in Boston recently and we were there to welcome her

Boston – “Gifted singer”, “dazzling performer”, “trailblazer”, “iconic”. Those are just a few of the superlative ways one can describe the magnificent Rita Moreno, proud native of Humacao, Puerto Rico.
She is also one of the few people on the planet, who has ever won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe and Tony Award.

This amazingly talented practitioner of the performing arts has been a beacon of pride and a role model for the Latino community for over seven decades. At 84, Moreno shows absolutely no signs of slowing down; neither in her career nor in her passionate point of view.

Recently, Moreno was honored by the Berklee College of Music with an honorary doctorate and also delivered the commencement address to the prestigious music institution’s graduating class of 2016.

In truly unique Moreno form, she delivered the superbly inspirational, and often humorous, address in rap – herself inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of the multiple Tony nominated Broadway musical “Hamilton”.

Moreno is best known for winning the Academy Award for her amazing performance as Anita in the 1961 film “West Side Story” which still inspires millions of young aspiring Latina actresses to this very day.

El Mundo Boston’s Tim Estiloz sat down to chat with Ms. Moreno about her groundbreaking career; her upcoming new tv series with legendary producer Norman Lear, while also discovering not only a woman with unexpected Boston connections, but also a woman with strongly held opinions, deep conviction and supreme dedication to her craft.
