Unprecedented partnership focuses on the positives:

On Wednesday, November 12th, a gathering of community partners of the “Viva Lawrence” initiative came together to recognize and get to know many of the “feel-good” stories that have been highlighted in El Mundo Newspaper front page stories over the past 8 months.

“This is a great example of using the media, corporate partners and community leaders in elevating the spirits and image of our Great city within and beyond our city limits”, expressed Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera.

“Eastern Bank is proud and honored to collaborate with everyone who has made ‘Viva Lawrence’ a reality,” said Eastern Bank President and COO Bob Rivers.

The Viva Lawrence initiative is an unprecedented collaboration between Eastern Bank, the City of Lawrence and El Mundo Newspaper to use the power of highlighting the positives of a community rather than the negatives.

“It’s refreshing and it certainly makes a difference. Look at all the wonderful people and their stories here tonight. It just makes everyone feel good and that’s what it’s all about”,  said Vilma Lora, Director of Social Justice Initiatives, YWCA of Greater Lawrence and coordinator for the Mayor’s Health Task Force.

The event brought together many of the individuals who’s stories, actions and dedication reflect the spirit of “Viva Lawrence” and who were featured on the front pages of El Mundo’s extended coverage of Lawrence, thanks to Eastern Bank’s support.

The stories ranged from a 6 year litle league’s dream come true to meet Big Papi of the Red Sox, to a young woman who was told she needed to completely change her lifestyle in order to deal with her recently diagnosed diabetes and beat the odds and the disease.

Several of the “Front Pagers” shared their stories with the audience as the evening served to put an even more personal touch to the results of the “Viva Lawrence” initiative.
