East Boston and Chelsea Students Honored at Fenway Park

El Mundo Boston and the Boston Red Sox recognized academic excellence last Monday, June 30th at Fenway Park, during a memorable pre-game ceremony.

Public middle school students from the Umana and Excel Greenway schools in East Boston joined honored Chelsea students from the Excel Chelsea, Clark Avenue school and the Browne Middle school.

Handing out Certificates of Recognition were Red Sox players Brennan Bernardino, Romy Gonzalez and Liam Hendriks.

Each student received four tickets to the game and later joined their families in the stands. For most families, it was their first Red Sox game ever.

The program is the only one of its kind in the nation and has been rewarding success in the classroom for 30 years.

The third and final 2025 Latino Youth Recognition Day is scheduled for Thursday, July 10th where students from the Revere and Lynn public schools will be honored. Mayor of Revere Patrick Keefe will also participate in the pre-game ceremony.
