General Manager of UniCare
Industry veteran brings 20 years of health care and government experience to role.

“Grateful. Happy. Excited”.

Those are the words David Morales used to express the way he feels in his new job to El Mundo Boston.

“This was the right moment, the right role and the right company”, added Morales.

David was named general manager of UniCare, a Massachusetts-based health benefits company that offers commercial and Medicare plans to members insured through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission (GIC).

UniCare is a health benefits company with deep, long-standing roots in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, serving Group Insurance Commission (GIC) members, retirees and their families for more than 30 years.

Many in our community know David through his work as as Deputy Chief of staff to Gov. Deval Patrick, managing cabinet affairs and health care policy. He was also Massachusetts Commissioner of Health Care Finance and Policy.

Morales also served as a senior adviser to Senate President Robert E. Travaglini and as an adviser to Speaker of the House of Representatives Thomas Finneran.

After his work in the public sector, Morales served as chief strategy officer for Steward Health Care System, where he led strategy, accountable care development and payment innovation.

His community work includes working with nonprofits, including having led El Jolgorio Navideño, the community’s largest holiday celebration and a major fundraiser for talented and gifted Latino students at UMass Boston (TAG program).

“It’s an honor to lead UniCare, the largest and fastest growing health plan offered by the Group Insurance Commission,” added Morales.

The UniCare State Indemnity Plan provides health benefits exclusively to people insured through the GIC, offering a variety of plan options that provide comprehensive medical benefits.

“I look forward to collaborating with the GIC to deliver expanded access to care and exceptional health benefits for the nearly 200,000 members we serve.”
