This past Tuesday morning Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Doughty took the time to drive from his home in Wrentham to the East Boston studios where El Mundo Boston livestreams the morning show called “La Hora Del Café” (The Coffee Hour).

Getting an early morning start was no problem as he made it to the studios by the 6:30am, a good half-hour before the 7am show time.

“It is very important for me to connect deeply with the Latino community of Massachusetts. They are a major contributor and part of our Commonwealth and as state-wide candidate I think it is a priority to hear directly form everybody”, said Doughty.

The 55 year-old businessman is one of two Republican candidates running to succeed fellow Republican Charlie Baker, who after two terms decided not to run again.

The other Republican candidate in the race is Geoff Diehl and the lone Democratic candidate is state Attorney Maura Healey.

During his hour-long time in the studio, Doughty spoke in some Spanish, as he explained he was able to pick-up on some of the language when he served as a volunteer for his church in southern Argentina.

“That’s where, as a young man, I saw the dangers of socialism, of hand-outs vs. work and so I have a deep interest in good jobs for everyone”, added Doughy.

When asked about a few of his priorities, Doughty answered with references to keeping the local economy strong for everyone.

“Jobs, jobs, jobs, good jobs for everyone, that’s what we look for a Governor do. That’s what I am skilled to do. If people have good jobs they can provide for their families, they can raise their children. So, I am here to bring in good jobs.”

Adriana Moreno, a viewer, pointed out that many have lost faith in politicians who promise a great deal but deliver very little and then asked for Doughty to answer the following question, but from his heart: “Why should I now vote for you?”

“For three decades I have tried to help my employees. From my heart, I want to help all 7 million citizens of Massachusetts the way I have helped my own employees. I don’t need the job to be Governor, but I do want to help. This is not the next job for me. I’ve retired from my business, and I want to give back to the community with all my skills, my abilities, my little bit of Spanish, my desire to help children as a father and as a grandfather, I recognize the importance of helping our next generation”, answered Doughy.

Doughty was the only Gubernatorial candidate to attend the annual Dinner for Semana Hispana in Lawrence and he was seen walking the parade with one of his young granddaughters who was waving a Puerto Rican flag.

“I had a great time, and I was able to meet many great people with so much energy. I am really glad my team and my family were able to participate”.

Chris has overseen the expansion of Capstan Industries from its initial startup of a few dozen employees to become, at its peak, a large multinational manufacturer.

Doughty considers himself a businessman and a moderate who will be competing in the primaries against Geoff Diehl, a conservative former state lawmaker who was previously endorsed by former president Donald Trump.

“We are very different types of Republicans” says Doughy.

The winner will face off against the lone Democratic Party hopeful Maura Healey.
