On Tuesday, June 21st, candidate for Massachusetts state auditor Anthony Amore stopped by to have some coffee with the crew from El Mundo Boston’s popular live-streaming morning show “La Hora del Café” (The Coffee Hour).

His purpose? To get to know the Latino community better.

“I believe the state auditor should represent all of the people in Massachusetts and every single person pays taxes, so if you pay taxes, you want someone who is making sure they’re being spent correctly, efficiently, and legally,” Amore said.

Amore spent an hour with the team at the East Boston studios where he answered questions about the role of a State Auditor and his more than 30 years of experience in investigations, audits, and inspections.

Amore explained that each state has an auditor who essentially serves as a financial watchdog for public funds, making sure they are allocated properly. The auditor’s office is responsible for conducting audits and investigations to ensure accountability and transparency.

Although Amore currently lives in Winchester, he has previously lived in East Boston.

“I’ve grown up and lived much of my life in the Latino community, so I understand how hard this community works and how precious these tax dollars are,” said Amore.

He describes himself as a moderate Republican but believes the state auditor should be politically independent.

“I don’t believe that the auditor should be a Republican auditor or a Democrat auditor. It should be the people’s auditor,” Amore said.

Amore is currently the head of security at the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum as well as an author of three books, including the “The Art of The Con”, which became a New York Times best seller. He also served on the leadership team that rebuilt the security at Logan Airport after the 9/11 attacks.

Amore, who currently has no Republican challenger, will face the winner of the Sept. 6 Democratic primary between State Sen. Diana DiZoglio, D-Methuen, and Chris Dempsey, a transit advocate, who are also seeking the job.

The election for state auditor will take place on November 8, 2022.
